My eyes bugged out of my head when they showed Erebor, and that's the main reason I wanted to see it in IMAX later (we saw it in 2D; I'm not a huge 3D fan). They did change some things that bugged me (but tiny things). FYI, this movie is only the first 5 chapters of the book! And don't even mention that animated version in front of Michael, LOL!

The *weird* thing I thought they changed was Elrond being opposed to the quest. They are at Rivendell for two weeks in the book, and there's no objection to them going, and no meeting with Galadriel and Saruman. But they are bringing in elements from the Appendices (at the end of Return of the King), so I think that was the tie-in there.

And just as an aside, we are NEVEREVEREVER going to the Mall of Georgia IMAX again! Like, never.geeky Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14311984338621692746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5895312.post-53716346274842602862012-12-28T05:58:33.409-05:002012-12-28T05:58:33.409-05:00Very interesting Erin! My son is a complete Tolkien nutcase (DH first read The Hobbit to him when he was 3!) and having seen the film in Thailand as soon as it came out he started by saying that Peter Jackson should be strung up for what he has done...and it went downhill from there! Personally I don't think I'll bother to watch - I much prefer books to films and although I've read Tolkien I don't re-read him (like you I have difficulty with him) and having seen the LOTR films once I haVve no desire to see them again. Oh, such heresy ;)Fionahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15136142030481900981noreply@blogger.com
