Super Summer 2012 - Mission Log, Day 15

Well, I think we'll be ending more with So-So Summer 2012 than Super Summer. Luke is either coming down with something or is being really affected by allergies. Plus, we have a bunch of errands to run this week to get ready for school (EEK!) on Monday (double EEK!).

Today was haircut, shoes (those are men's size 5.5, BTW), and grocery day.



I thought we would have some time this afternoon to do some fun things (like shaving cream paintings), but having to wait an hour for a haircut really killed that plan. There was only about an hour between the time we finally got home and the time that my husband came home, and it was threatening rain (the painting needed to be done outside), so he spent it playing LEGOs downstairs. Tomorrow is 2nd grade registration, and then open house on Friday to meet his teacher. EEK!

The Olympics - London 2012 - Middle Weekend

Luke is finally getting into the swimming, now that it's mostly over. He showed a lot of interest in the synchronized diving; I guess "did they do the same thing at the same time" is pretty easy for him to understand, more so than the gymnastics scoring. He also wanted to go outside and "race" (run) on Sunday, which was pretty funny. He finds the hurdles fascinating. He's not as interested in the Olympics in general as he was at first, but he's still watching a fair bit of it. I have quiet enjoyed the handball, much more than I expected. And I feel compelled to mention Michael Phelps and his history-making moments. It will be nice to tell my grandchildren, "I remember that."

I'm doing quite well on trying to see a little bit of everything from the Olympics. I think I might have missed the sailing, though. Maybe I can catch it online. I also discovered that Get Glue does not have stickers for rowing or walking, and I guess they are considering track cycling part of regular cycling. Interesting. I don't think I'll be getting boxing, I'll have to catch up to claim sailing. I know taekwondo, wrestling, and rhythmic gymnastics are still to come. I'll have to see if there is anything else I've missed. Not too many stickers left to get, but I did get gold! LOL

Super Summer 2012 - Canceled due to illness

I had a monstrous headache today, bordering on a migraine, so there were no Super Summer 2012 activities. All I did was either sit very still and watch muted Olympics, or sleep. Unfortunately, this left Luke with an electronic baby sitter. I think he watched about 5 hours of various cartoons on the downstairs television (which can blessedly now stream Netflix) while playing LEGOs, and he played a couple of hours of Wii. About the only thing I actively did with/for him was make lunch (reheated chili). :-( I felt like a bit of a failure, but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. Next week is our last two days of Super Summer 2012! Hopefully, they will be better than today was.

Super Summer 2012 - Mission Log, Day 14

Our Super Summer 2012 mission is winding down. Only this week and next before it is back to school. Didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but I still think it has been quite a success. Today was one of those days where we didn't do anything I had planned because we were doing other equally fun and worthwhile stuff. Morning was the usual: breakfast, TV (he's on a Super Hero Squad kick right now), Wii (which is aerobic for him; will try to post some video), then lunch. After we ate, he wanted to play a game.



He periodically goes on Monopoly binges, and he's in the middle of a very intense one. So right after lunch, we started playing. That took up the entire afternoon until DH got home from work, but we were both laughing and having fun, *and* we were getting in his reading and math practice without him even realizing it. Doesn't get much better than that!



He can make change up to about $200 in his head, and he read most of the property titles and chance/community chest cards without much difficulty. *And* he beat me fair and square. That might just make monopoly the greatest game ever, in his book! LOL
