Excessive comments?

I'm wondering if this is just me, or if other people do it, too. If you already see that someone's blog post has a ton of comments (I'm talking several hundred), do you still go ahead and comment or no? Usually, I won't. I mean, I'm not (usually) going to sit there and read all 400+ comments, and what is the likelyhood that I will have something unique to say? Does the person who wrote the entry actually *read* all 400+ comments? And do they really care? Most of them say they do, but that is hard for me to imagine. (I care, but I think the most comments I've ever gotten was about 20.) If I *really* feel like I have something to say, I will go on and post to a heavily commented thread, but it is rare. So what about you? Do you have some sort of "limit" on whether or not you will comment based on how many are there already?

Currently feeling: like I have nothing worthwhile to say

  1. I don't have a hard and fast rule, but I'm generally less likely to comment the higher number of comments there are already. This is true for me even for stitchy blogs. The threshold number is far less than 100 - I often don't comment if there are more than 20 comments already. Exception inclue when I have something really specific to say, or when I feel a particular connection to the blog writer and I know my response will mean something to them.

  2. If there are anything up to about 200 comments, but I *think* I have something unique to say, I will. If it is just a 'well done' or 'congratulations' type comment on a finished object, or new baby post, then I will usually add that too, but if I think what I have to say has probably already been said, or if there are more than that many comments, I won't bother. (Unless it's a giveaway post!)

  3. That said, I usually only comment on blogs where I 'know' the author fairly well, and there aren't a lot of those getting 100+ comments :)

  4. I don't generally post a comment when there are scads already unless it's a WTG on something. Oh, or if it's a blog candy thing which requires a comment to be entered into a drawing. Most of the blogs I read don't get excessively large numbers of comments anyway, so I've not really had to think of an exact cutoff number yet. ;)

  5. Well, it might just be my personality, but if I have something to say, I say it. :D And, while I've never had 100 responses to any blog entry of mine, I do sincerely read and appreciate every single comment I do receive. To me, it means someone thought about me, even for just a minute.

  6. LOL...that's totally me!! If there are more than about 20, I don't post unless I have a special reason to! I think the most I've ever gotten was 11.

My apologies for not allowing comments from Anonymous users. I was getting way too much spam. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
