Odiferous Dinosaurs: A Conversation with Luke
Every two weeks, they have a new topic or theme at Luke's school. Last week and this week, it has been dinosaurs. On the way home yesterday from school, this is what he told us:

That's what I was afraid of
A) It's just wrong. B) It is going to make it that much harder to break the visual connection between Quinto as Spock and Quinto as Sylar. If he could do the whole thing calm and cool, that would help, but to have him "not as controlled and rational as Mr. Nimoy's character" is going to work against them in that respect.

Refrigerator Redecorating
I finally got around to redoing the front of my refrigerator. I took down some older pictures (but not all of the old ones), mainly replacing old Christmas card photos with new ones. I also took over a little extra room near the bottom of the right side with some nifty magnetic photo frames I found at Target last week. Hard to tell from the photo, but they stand up about 1/2 inch from the surface of the door, and they have super-strong magnets in them (as in, it sometimes takes two hands for me to get one of them off the door), so they won't be sliding around. I had intended to intersperse them with the rest of the photos, but the sizes worked better this way. Look closely and you might even spot yourself, your children, or someone you know!
The before picture is actually one I took for a thread on the BB back in September. I was asking if people kept stuff on their refrigerator or preferred them "nekkid." Later during the thread, I was inspired to post a photo of mine, and several others played along. It was actually a quite interesting discussion! Oh, the things we discuss on the board. Anatomy: A Conversation with Luke
Though probably not what you think. This was the conversation on the way home from the grocery store last night. It's a little long, and the end seems repetitive, but hang with me.
Luke: Dad, are we going home?
DH: Yes, we need to go home and put the groceries away before they get hot.
Luke: They getting hot?
DH: Yes, they are getting hot in the trunk.
Luke: Oh. I not help carry them in?
DH (puzzled): You can help carry them in if you want.
Luke: No I not. If it hot, then I get hurt and say ouchie!
DH: Oh, no, they won't be so hot you can't touch them. The cold things will just get too warm and go bad.
Luke: I be careful with hot. Kitty [speaking to his stuffed companion], you no touch hot.
DH: That's right, we don't touch hot things, or we can get hurt.
Luke: Yeah, kitty. You touch hot and you get hurt. You hurt your face...
... and your whiskers,
... and your nose,
... and your hand,
... and your belly,
... and your hiney,
... and your tag....

No "skilz" required, Jenny!
First, thank you to everyone for letting me know that I'm not the only one to forget to buckle in the child. I'm sure it's common, but that didn't make me feel any less bad about it at the time. And thanks also for all of the very nice comments and emails about the photo montage. *I* certainly think Luke is beautiful and amazing, but I know I'm biased.
I had to laugh at Jenny's comment on the photo montage itself. She said she was impressed with my skilz! LOL Actually, there was absolutely no skill required. Just go to the site, One True Media, upload your photos, and it does the rest, transitions and all. And if you don't like the transition they applied to a particular photo, you can change it. For example, I changed the transition on the photo of Luke with The Hulk statue to pan from bottom to top to enhance that sense of height, instead of zooming in like it was doing originally doing. You can also change how long the pictures show, either all of them at once, or set certain ones to show longer. You get to pick the music (not a huge selection) or upload your own (not sure on the legality of using copyrighted songs to display on my blog, which is why I didn't use something snazzier). You can use up to 3 different songs, though I just repeated the same song 3 times. It handles video as well as still photos. You can even order a high resolution version on DVD (be sure to use high resolution photos if you plan to use that option; I haven't tried it personally, but I really want to).
I know, I sound like a commercial! There is no affiliation, and that's just a straight link up there. No kickbacks or anything. I just really really like the site and its capabilities. Special thanks to Leah for using it previously on her blog, other wise I would never have known about it.
I also added/updated a few of my sidebar elements. I've added a Disney countdown clock (only 56 days!), which is technically too wide for the sidebar, but seems okay. I updated the slide show, but if you watched the 2008 picture review, you've seen every photo in it (used the same source file), though there are twice as many photos in the review as in the slide show. And several weeks ago, I added a Twitter feed and a word cloud (below "The Entertainment" section), just for fun. I don't necessarily agree with all of the words that the word cloud picks out, but it is still interesting to me to watch it change. You may not be so easily amused! LOL Let me know if any of it causes you viewing problems for those who actually visit the blog as opposed to using a news reader. Thanks!

Buckle-Up Debacle
I absolutely cannot believe I did this. I feel like the worst mom ever! On our way out to the car this morning, Luke commented that his shoe hurt. I figured his sock got twisted, since he wasn't holding still while I was putting his shoes on. So he climbed in his car seat, I took his shoe off and rearranged the sock, picked out the tight double knot, put the shoe back on, and closed the door. Got in the car and drove off.
Three and a half miles later at a stop light, Luke turns in his seat to look at something out the window. "Mom," I hear from the back, "I don't have my seatbelt on." I knew instantly what had happened. Thankfully, there was a bank with a big parking lot right there, so I just pulled in, got out, and buckled him in. Got back in the car, back on the road, and all was well.
I just can't believe I did that! And I am horrified at what might have happened. I am so grateful that he realized it so quickly and that he spoke up, though if he is anything like me, he doesn't feel safe in the car without it.
