February 2007 Round Up (very late)

Monthly Round Up idea borrowed from Katie the Scrapbook Lady.

Blinkie by: Pinky Blinkies

Sorry. I am way late with the February review. As Kelli so accurately pointed out, seems like every time I post, someone has been sick! I assure you, no one is more tired of that than I (note my good grammar for my English-teacher friend). And even if you don't want to read the whole thing, scroll down to the bottom of this post; Luke's school portraits came in, and they are wonderful!

What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
I finally finished Inkheart. I was a bit disappointed with the ending, but it was still interesting. Never did start anything else, though Inkspell (the sequel) has been toted to various places since then. I just haven't cracked the cover open yet! I know, it's so sad.

What movies and/or tv shows did I watch this month?
Oh, we saw Music & Lyrics (in the theater the weekend it opened, IIRC!). It was very sweet, we both really liked it, and I purchased the soundtrack special just for our up-coming trip to Florida. Television was the usual, though I think Rules of Engagement (new sit-com starring Patrick Warburton, Oliver Hudson, and David Spade) might be new since January. I can't remember when we started watching that one. But we love Patrick Warburton, and it does make us laugh, which is more than I can say for most comedies these days. Besides that one, "just" High Stakes Poker, House, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Criminal Minds, CSI:NY, CSI, ER, Shark, and NUMB3RS.

What special days did I celebrate and how?
I think we went to Wendy's for Valentine's Day. Oooo, exciting, no? The point was for me not to have to cook and DH not to have to wash dishes, so for that, it served its purpose. Other than the first year we were married when he gave me jewelry (the only piece of jewelry he's ever picked out for me all by himself, and that includes my engagement ring!), we don't make a big deal out of Valentine's Day. Just cards, maybe some candy or a stuffed animal (not even those this year, though I did get the Josh Groban Hallmark CD), and dinner out, yes even if it is just Wendy's.

What gifts did I give and/or receive?
Hrm.... I don't really recall any. Boy, I'm getting lame!

What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
Oh, good heaven's yes! I think we were all sick at some point or another. I know I was on antibiotics for that lung thing that *finally* went away. Luke had some stomach virus that almost prevented my parents from visiting. DH was coming down with something, but didn't actually get *sick* until March 1, so that will have to wait a month (well, okay, 3 weeks).

What fun things did I do with my friends and/or family?
We have got to be the most boring people in the world. We pretty much did nothing. Luke had fun playing in the cooler like it was a treasure chest or hidey-hole. He and DH also built their first fort in the living room (using the cooler as one compartment. Wait, I think I have a picture (his Nemo table is holding up the lid of the cooler, it's just hidden by the blanket):

What new foods, recipes or restaurants did I try this month?
Once again, I failed here. I had really good intentions, I promise, it just didn't actually happen.

What special or unusual purchases did I make?
Tons! You can read the whole detailed report of my most major single shopping trip, but there were others as well. We got new hinges for the garage door so it would close (though we technically didn't have to pay for those), I got shoes and a blouse (sweater, really) and jewelry for the wedding, we bought Luke a new car seat and a complete summer wardrobe including two pairs of shoes (my first time using Zappos.com, and I will use them again!!), and last but certainly not least, I got new glasses for the first time in 5-6 years.

What were this month's disappointments?
I don't really recall any specific ones. We thought Luke was starting to wake up in the middle of the night again, but that turned out to be him getting sick. There were some frustrations, but no major disappointments.

What were my accomplishments this month?
Not sure there were any of those, either. We got prepped for the wedding, and we survived. I hardly scrapped (2 layouts, I think, one of which was actually completed in January) or did anything else useful.

Anything else noteworthy to record?
Luke had his first ever school portraits made! I cannot believe how grown up he looks. They turned out really great. Wanna see? (Of course you do! LOL They just arrived today.)

Is it April yet?

So far in March, my husband has been dreadfully sick, we spent hours and hours in a car driving to and from North Carolina for a wedding (I'm glad we went, and the wedding went beautifully, so that was good, but I'm still tired from the trip), I was informed that my work contract will most likely be terminated two months early, and my son spent the night throwing up, causing me to miss yet another day of work that I really can't afford right now. And now my tummy is now feeling rather wobbly, so I'll probably be sick in the next couple of days. Better in the next couple of days than next week, though, since we're leaving for Disney on Tuesday. That would be very bad indeed and just might convince me never to take my son to Disney ever again. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, shall we?

Is it April yet? I've had enough of March already.

Wedding pictures

The wedding went very well. Even started on time, believe it or not! LOL And we could not have ordered more perfect weather. It just went great. Here are a few pictures:

Doing well so far

We made it without incident. Well, besides being 20 minutes late to the rehearsal. But considering we left an hour later than we intended, that's really not so bad. We split the drive fairly evenly. He drove before lunch while he was fresh; I drove after lunch so he could nap and be fresh for the evening. We didn't stay too late at the dinner either. Left just after 8. And I think her mom was expecting about 100 people instead of about 30, LOL! It was insane, but very yummy. And they ordered more food for this afternoon (the after-wedding party for out-of-town folks). She's going to have to buy a commercial refrigerator/freezer just to store all the leftovers. Either that, or she won't have to cook again until April.

Anyway, it's almost 9, and we have to be there at 10:30. Better start getting ready. Pictures sometime next week! And I know I'm a couple of hours early, but I would like to say:

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gaston!

Oh, and happy birthday to my grandmother! She is 74 today. As a gift, I am sending my son (by way of her daughter/my mother) to celebrate with her for lunch today.

Nooooooooo!!!!

DH is sick. As in type sick. He's been in bed all day, which is not like him at all. (This is the man for whom sleeping late means 8 AM.) As of about 1 PM, I'm not feeling so hot myself.

He's supposed to be best man at his brother's wedding on Saturday!! And we're leaving at 7 AM tomorrow morning to make the 7 hour drive to North Carolina. Have I mentioned that I already don't handle mountains well? This is SOOOO not good. Please, if you have any thoughts or prayers or good luck or mojo or anything to spare, we could really use it.

Improving with age

Or so says my eye doctor. It had been four years since I had been to the eye doctor, since the last time I was due I was pregnant. I had also had the same frames for six years (just changed the lenses last time). So, I finally decided it was time to go, especially when I was having trouble reading signs. Looks like I'm improving with age! Turns out that my eyes actually got better. I couldn't see because the lenses I had were too strong! How bizarre. Unfortunately for our bank account, I have my father's skin issues (though not quite as severely as he does), so I have to get the supremo expensive titanium frames (or the plastic ones, which I just do not like, and yes, I did try some). I like them, though. They're taking a little getting used to, since the lenses are so much smaller than my old ones. They are not at all shaped the way I usually like my glasses, and they are much more "hip" than I usually go for. Wanna see? (And please forgive my hair in the second picture!) Hey, I'm wearing red in both pictures (different shirts, though). I didn't notice that until now.

2007 Oscars - not too bad

I've certainly done worse! I got 14/24, or 58%, which isn't all that bad really (particularly considering how few films I saw this year). I feel like I've done well if I make 60%, so one more category would have done it (it's all Pan's Labyrinth's fault!). Not as good as the year I managed close to 75%, but not nearly as bad as the year I pulled like a 43%. All in all, I'm pretty happy with my results. And there are really only three categories I might have chosen better if if I'd thought about it longer (did my picks in about 10 minutes before the show), so I'm pretty happy with that.

And yes, Luke did go back to sleep and stay that way through the rest of the night. DH definitely wins the Best Daddy Comforter award. :-)
